Discovery Toys Review

Some of our favourite toys are from Discovery Toys. So when they offered me a chance to review some of their toys, I was happy to do it as I already knew that these were quality toys!

If you haven't heard of them before, Discovery Toys is a direct sales company for quality educational toys. Their toys promote learning though play - and who would complain about that?

We were sent the Play and Learn Snail - a soft toy that comes apart like a puzzle. With bright and contrasting colours, varying shapes, sounds and textures, crinkles, squeaks and rattles, ChubbyBaby was attracted to this guy right away. While he liked to pull the snail apart and hear the noises, GoGirl, at almost 3 years old, enjoyed fitting the shapes back together.

We were also sent the Caterpillar Shape Sorter - described as a versatile, open-ended puzzle with countless opportunities for math exploration and configuration. Puzzle pieces can be fit together in a number of ways. This would make a great gift for a preschooler!

Where can you find Discovery Toys? To find the distributor closest to you, go to the Discovery Toys website and click at the top of the page "Find a Consultant". Most consultants have websites with their phone numbers listed. You can order online or you can call them if you have questions or need any help.

Build A Bear review

Every time we're at St. Vital Mall, GoGirl manages to find her way into Build-A-Bear! It's like a magnet for kids. And it's pretty easy to see why - all of the stuffed animals to choose from, it's a dream for her!

Build-A-Bear recently sent us the Polar Bear to review. He's fluffy, soft and cuddly; a great
holiday gift for any child. The holiday line at Build-A-Bear has lots of cute friends to choose from. Hal and Holly Moose are my favourites - the Christmas lights on his antlers light up!
Frosty the Snowman would also make a great gift and someone you can bring out every year - his red cheeks light up and he can be customized to sing too!

GoGirl is getting a trip with Grandma to Build-A-Bear for a gift this year - but shhhhh - she doesn't know it yet! I can't wait to see which furry friend she chooses to make.

PlanToys

I'm pretty pumped about this win & I have to share!

I recently won a PlanToys Country Diorama for the kiddos' school through a contest on the PlanToys Facebook page! The contest required leaving a comment about your favourite thing
about your children's school/daycare and one winner was to be picked. Instead they gave all of the entrants the prize! (They also recently sent toys to teachers through a giveaway on Facebook.)

The set includes a wooden barn, stable, animals, farmers and a garden. It's gorgeous - the sort of toy that you keep to pass on to future generations. GoGirl was very disappointed when I told her that the set was going to her school, and now she's hoping that it makes an appearance in her classroom!

To hear about their next giveaway, sign up as a fan on their Facebook page.

CardSwap - discounted gift cards for Canadians!

Have you ever received a gift card that you couldn't use? Wished you could have the cash instead? Unfortunately stores don't let you trade in their gift cards for cash, but now CardSwap will! CardSwap is a Canadian website to buy and sell discounted gift cards.

CardSwap has gift cards from big brands at discounts of 10 - 40% off! When browsing the site I found gift cards for The Gap (10% off), Soft Moc (20% off), Apple (10% off) and an Office Depot card at $69 off the face value! I'm going to be picking up some gift cards for places that I regularly shop, but they would also be great for gifts.

CardSwap describes their service as like ebay for gift cards, but better as it provides a guarantee on the funds and the value of the card! Once you've registered on the site, post your gift card for sale (gift card is verified before listed) and wait for someone to buy it. If you're buying a gift card you have the comfort of knowing that the value of the card has been verified and is guaranteed.

Register for CardSwap before December 31, 2009 and you could win an iPod Touch! Register here and enter the PIN MK1159 when requested. As part of the registration you can set up a wish list of gift cards and you'll receive an email notification when something on your wish list is posted.
